I deleted my database and I’m an idiot
Yesterday was quite a day. You may notice a few articles are missing. After a long days work, large amounts of caffeine and flu medication pumping through my veins, I some how managed to delete the NoboxMedia database - don’t laugh, grunt or roll your eyes. This is the first time I have deleted an important database, it was not fun. The moment I realized what I had done, my mind slowly initiated the ‘developer shut down phase’. I simply smiled, left my desk, made a cup of tea and imagined myself feeding the ducks at Emmarentia dam (Learnt this trick in varsity).
In the end with the aid of my awesome hosting service, Afrihost, I was able to recap most of the articles from last year. As for the missing ones, I will try recap them over the next month.
Since this post is about Nobox, perhaps this is a good time to talk about the future of the site. I will soon be uploading a new theme. The current one is cool and has done well for the site. However, there are a few style issues and color uses problem I would like to improve on. The new theme will be more readable, friendly and faster to load. I will also be changing the format and direction of the content. Nobox will adopt a magazine style publication method. Once a week I will publish a topic related bundle. This bundle will cover a specified topic in detail with tutorials, demos and background. In-between the weekly publishing, I will cover local HTTP news and happenings. I’m sure this format will result in a more fulfilling experience at NoboxMedia.
If there is a missing article that you really need. Drop a comment and I will help you out.
Happy coding,
Robin Pietersen
P.S Don’t forget to backup your database!

Did that with Bandwidth blog in January.. lots 50 comments on one post which was my highest commented post… bleak.
“In the end with the aid of my awesome hosting service, Afrihost” and what about the loving women in your life that gave you the idea when you thought all was lost to contact your service provider? us poor women do all the work and get no recognition sigh*
@Charl: My condolences bud. I can bet neither of us will make the same mistake twice.
@Mandy: LOL - As always you are the right side of my brain!
Hi Robin - sorry about the database issues. I was looking for an article that mainly contains links called “50 Ajax Effects to Jazz Up Your Site”. Any chance of resurrecting that and/or emailing it to me?
Thanks, and good luck with the site recovery.
@Akshay: Sorry for the late response. You can use the following link to get all the effects:

Hey Robin - Always great to hear when we helped someone out! I’ve always told our guys if we could somehow develop an application that made a huge hand grow out of your computer screen and slap you just before you did something stupid we’d be golden :)
@Gian: lol - The only way to learn is the hard way. Thanks again to you and your people, this is not the first time you have saved me from my own stupidity.
Sorry about your loss…I recently did the same thing with a clients entire site. I just finsihed rebuilding it yesterday. I don’t think my reaction was as calm as yours. I was more like Homer Simpson’s frustration with Bart;-)
