About Nobox

What is NoboxMedia, the HTTP magazine

NoboxMedia is a magazine/blog covering various aspects of new media.

Nobox outlines, explains and demonstrates AJAX, DHTML and JavaScript. Although the focus is largely on the technical side of things, Nobox tries to cover news and innovation related to new media. Nobox has a distinct focus on the pretty side of things, meaning we don’t go too deep into the intimate mechanics of things, but rather focus on the design, usability and the cool factor of scripts. We will try provide visitors with valuable resources that will help enhance their development efforts as well as the final product. There are literally thousands of cool scripts out there that are helping developers up their game and produce amazing web sites. NoboxMedia is simply a resource/guide for achieving greatness.

About the author

My name is Robin Pietersen. Some would say I am a developer, designer and multimedia guy, but I prefer all round HTTP professional.

Lets start at the beginning. Back in 2000 I was left with a choice - Fine art or web developer. The choice was tough and to be honest could have gone either way. In the end I felt a life of poverty and passion did not quite coincide with my goals, so I chose web development.

I started studying in 2001 at TWR and completed my National Diploma in Web&Application development at the University of Johannesburg in 2005. In my final year my team and I developed an RFID payment/transaction system called Mercury, and where finalists in the Microsoft Firefly Project day (It was a great experience).

I then moved on to ITWeb as a designer and developer. After a year I moved on to a new position as web developer at a local digital Media Agency called You&Me. I started out at You&Me as a developer and over the period of a year I was promoted to technical director.

I now work for the Avusa Media iLab as the lead designer.

I live in Johannesburg with my amazing fiancé who has the patience of a saint, allowing me to work late into the night on my many various projects.

I started Nobox as a shared place to store all my resources. With the support of a great community, Nobox has gown tremendously (More than I expected).

About the Nobox Robot

I get this quite often - Why do you have a robot in the header? To be 100% honest, it is because I like it. I know it’s geeky but I love robots. I also love technology. So I figured I would design a robot, build a tech site/blog, stick the two together and take on the web.

My support group

Every developer needs a support group. I few developers who you can turn to when you are really stuck on a technical matter. My group consists of three - Matthew Vorster, Jason Dugmore and Gary Greenburg. I have known all three for many years and have the pleasure of working with them on a daily basis at You&Me. All three are experienced developers with a wealth of information ranging from advanced server configuration to compiling insane functions.
